I took the first course in Pranic healing in March 2009, and its depth has been an astonishing experience. I’m still awe struck by how well it works in not just my hands, but of others. Many people I’ve spoken to, who have taken classes by now have also discovered the power and the ability of their own hands when it comes to healing their family members, others and even themselves. Some have taken longer than others, but everyone has felt something or healed someone in the process.
The other day someone asked me-but how does Pranic healing work? It seems very strange and hard to believe that you don’t touch the person, you don’t prescribe any medicine but it seems to have a beneficial effect. Is it the placebo effect? Is it self hypnosis?
I think the simplest way to describe it, is in Master Choa’s first book – the older edition is just called Pranic Healing. The latest one is called Miracles Through Pranic Healing. I would also recommend the book co authored by The Head of the West Coast Center, Master Stephen Co and Dr Eric Robbins a physician who practices Pranic healing as part of his medical practice. You can read Master Co’s interview in this issue as well. His story is quite fascinating.
Pranic healing has been described as a “distinct system of healing based on its own philosophy of life and the supreme realization that there is a basic vital energy in the human body which is responsible for the maintenance of health.” These days of course a lot of people also know that technology has also found ways to measure and photograph the aura or energy field that is around us.
Pranic healing says that illness and health problems occur because of obstruction to the flow of prana or the basic vital energy in the body. The energy body or our aura, evidently is three dimensional and starting from inside the physical body spreads outwards to envelop the body as if creating an outline. It is actually very easy to see and when we did our first course, it was a lot of fun seeing the auras of trees, and our fellow students in class. We were also able to scan the trouble spots in each person’s body with varying degrees of success.
According to Co and Robinson, there is a network of power centers, passageways and energy fields that interpenetrate the physical body. The network is called the energetic anatomy. The energetic anatomy has five components.
The chakras, are the key centers that take in and distribute energy.
The meridians which actually are the channels used to transfer the energy or prana to and from the Chakras and nearby organs and parts of the body. There are two major meridians or channels that control the smaller ones. They are not part of the nervous system even though they are the channels to carry Prana. In Co-Robbins book, its mentioned that many Taoist systems feature a meditation that teaches how to circulate Prana through these two large meridians.
According to Master Choa, there are several major and thousands of minor meridians. In yoga they are known as major and minor nadis. The prana flows these channels to nourish and nurture the whole body.
Then there is the inner aura, that begins inside and can be seen extending around 5 inches outside in a healthy person.
The outer aura also begins inside but extends several feel beyond the inner aura in a healthy person. It holds in the body’s energy.
Finally the health aura is seen as 2 foot long rays that radiate outside. If the person is healthy the rays are straight and clean-if the person is sick the rays look droopy and not straight. You will learn how to scan the aura when you take the course. It was quite fascinating for me to discover that the strange colors I used to see around sick or healthy people before I took the course was actually their aura.
Perhaps the most important lesson in my eyes to learn is to know your Chakras. I have grown up listening to the word-Chakra since I’m from India and Yoga has been such an integral part of my growing up. We were taught Yoga in school.
But what are the chakras and why are they so important?
According to Master Choa, the man who gave the world Pranic healing, they are whirling energy centers and a very important part of the energy body, just as our vital organs are a very important part of our physical body. There are three types of chakras. The major chakras are 3 to 4 inches in diameter, minor chakras are 1 to 2 inches and mini chakras that are less than an inch in diameter.
These are often described as flower like energy centers that open and close and also spin They receive divine energy and also decipher that energy. it’s a popular perception especially in Yoga that we have seven major chakras. But according to Master Choa, in Pranic healing we have 11 major chakras. Also three of them the heart, the solar plexus and spleen have a front and back aspect. So when you add that up, you actually have 14 power centers to work with.
Master Co and Dr Robbins also explain in their book that the reason many forms of Yoga and some energy and meditation systems talk about only 7 chakras, is because those are effective for pure spiritual development. But just focusing on those seven chakras is not effective for physical healing because some of the chakras that control key parts of the body are omitted.
The major chakras are located in the crown, the forehead, between the brows, the throat, the front heart, the front solar plexus, the front spleen, navel, the private part area, at the base of the spine, at the back of the navel, the back spleen, the back solar plexus and the back heart.
Each Chakra relates to certain organs and its malfunction can cause certain diseases. These Chakras are responsible for controlling, energizing and overseeing the proper functioning of the body and its organs, Some chakras also responsible for developing psychic faculties.
The minor and mini chakras are all over the body inside several major organs. These chakras control and energize those body parts that are not the key ones.
Many diseases however can be easily treated by taking care of the major chakras.
Pranic healing focuses on the inner aura to scan, for blockages and imbalance, and to correct those imbalances through the techniques created and perfected by Master Choa Kok Sui.
You can pick up Master Choa‘s book, to get an idea of where all the chakras are located and how they impact your health.
